Former Ivory Coast international and Newcastle United player Cheick Tiote, aged 30 has died in Beijing, China after collapsing during training, his spokesman said.
He collapsed and lost consciousness during a training section with Beijing Enterprises at around 6pm and died an hour later.
Tiote made over 130 appearances for Newcastle, including three last season and scored one goal during his seven-year-spell at the North-East club.
He is remembered for his stunner, his only goal at the club for the Magpies which came against Arsenal on a special occasion where the Toon army came back to fight from being 0-4 down at half time to finish the game 4-4.
After spending seven years at the club, Tiote moved to Chinese League one side Beijing Enterprise in February for an undisclosed fee and played every league match until the last one on June 3 against Baoding Yingli Yitong.
